We can accept the following items:
  • All men’s, ladies' and children’s clothing
  • Paired shoes (tied together)
  • Handbags, bags, ties & belts

P2 iPad Teachers

P2A shared the skills they had learned from P7B with their P5A Buddies as part of a lovely session of activities for World Book Day.  They had a great time reading books and making a Pic Collage of their chosen characters. The P5s read an extract from the book they had brought in and P2s also read to their buddy.

Runaway Success!

Outstanding success at the EPSSA Cross Country event today Moday 3rd March on the Meadows. Lawson and Tom both achieved Second Place in the P6 and P7 Boys' races and Cerys and Lucia achieved First Place in the P6 and P7 Girls' races. Cerys had a convincing win, despite having to run for part of the race with only one shoe! The other runners also did extremely well, with many being placed in the first fifty in each event, competing against schools from all over the city.

Our first 5 P6 and P7 boys and girls in each race today will go on to compete in the EPSSA Final Cross Country event at Inverleith Park on Monday 17th March at 11.00am. Thank you to all the parents who came along to support and to Willie Jarvie and Dante's mum who have coached the children so well at the lunchtime Running Club. Participation in the Lothian Schools Cross Country events, introduced to the school by Lucia's mum, Rosemary Free, has also had a hugely positive impact on the progress and success of the pupils. Well done P6 and P7! A very exciting event!

Thank you to Mrs Sally Nowell for helping to officiate and to Mrs Beth Walker and Mr Jonathan Wallace for organising the proceedings.

The whole team played really well and were very well behaved, thanking all of the refs and other teams at the end.

A huge thanks to netball coach Emmylou Harris for all the hard work she has put in to coaching them."  Clem Friend

A Magical Week at Benmore for P6

It was a genuine pleasure to escort our P6 pupils to Benmore Outdoor Education Centre and we truly enjoyed their company. Every camp is special but this year's group particularly impressed us with their 'can do' positive attitudes in challenging weather and their very good listening skills. P6s have made lasting bonds - with each other - and with the staff. 16 Benmore Instructors and 10 Sciennes staff plus Mr Hewitt worked tirelessly with 81 of our P6 pupils to ensure they had the best possible experience. Thank you most sincerely to all the families who support us, not least of all financially, in providing what we believe to be an invaluable educational opportunity for our children.

We hope you have a wonderful holiday and we look forward to building on the success of the trip. Well done, Primary Six! Catch up with our adventures on our Benmore 2014 blog.

Comenius European Partnership

Meeting room of the Town Hall, Madrid

"We are all citizens of one world."

Ms Bethan Owen and a colleague from Preston Street School represented James Gillespie's High School Cluster in a recent European Comenius project funded by the British Council. Both had opportunities to visit schools in Madrid, meet with European colleagues and compare educational systems and language learning.

The project linked DG Quality and Improvement of Education, the City of Tres Cantos, the Rey Juan Carlos University,  five schools from the Community of Madrid, City of Edinburgh Council and Edinburgh University, Sciennes and Preston Street Primary Schools. Representatives from ten primary and secondary schools will meet again next May in Edinburgh.

The Comenius Programme is named after Jan Amos Comenius (1592-1670), often considered the father of modern education
Comenius is aimed at schools, colleges and local authorities across Europe

Comenius has two main objectives:
to develop knowledge and understanding among young people and education staff of the diversity of European cultures and languages, and the value of this diversity
to help young people to acquire basic life skills and competences for their personal development, for future employment and for active European citizenship

Curling at Murrayfield with Tom Killin

Pupils Curling at Murrayfield with Paralympic Curler Tom Killin

Thank you to Ms Gaffney's Journalist husband Alex for providing an exciting opportunity today for some of our pupils to meet Paralympic Curler Tom Killin at Murrayfield Ice Rink. Photographs will appear in the Evening News and Mrs Sally Nowell, Pupil Support Assistant who accompanied the group, said she was really proud of how confidently the children answered questions for the CBBC Newsround film crew. The footage will be shown towards the end of February. Bruce Crawford, our former PTA Chair, is a great exponent of curling and his son Angus was one of our pupil representatives, along with Akilan, Christian, Eben and Mhairi.
