Sciennes Awarded 'Cycle Friendly School'

The Cycle Friendly School Award is for schools that actively encourage cycling. Sciennes recently bought ‘balance bikes’ so that children who had not yet learned to ride could be given the opportunity to pick up this valuable skill. Walking, scooting or cycling to school has been part of Sciennes and Stenhouse Primary Schools' culture for a long time. Certificates for both schools were handed over at Stenhouse  Primary by Cllr Paul Godzik, Convenor of Education, Children and Families.

Two of our newest cyclists, Abi and Rose from P3, accepted the award at Assembly on Friday.

P6 Art Exhibition

Friday 10th May saw the culmination of many weeks of creating artwork using a variety of media - watercolour, cross stitch, collage, digital art, environmental art - when our accomplished P6 artists had the opportunity to stage their very own Art Exhibition in the Hall. The theme was 'Thistles' and P6 creativity was a delight to view in an abundance of representations.

Each year group had an opportunity to visit the exhibition and P6 pupils were on hand as gallery guides. Families were also invited and remarked on the quality - and quantity- on display. Mood boards decorate the entire Hall and will remain on show over the coming weeks. Thank you to Lorna from Images School Art Exhibitions for mounting and framing one piece from each child, which was on sale today and will continue to be available to purchase for two more weeks for any families who were unable to attend today's event.

Thank you to class teachers Ms Pearmain, Mrs Barker, Mr Kearton and Mr Hewitt for all their endeavours and to Ms Anstruther for her support. Thank you also to P6 pupils who hosted so well, welcoming at the door with programmes and offering juice and biscuits to our visitors. Congratulations to all our P6 artists for all your amazing artistic achievements!

P5 Scottish Opera

What a fabulous performance today from Primary Five! They were word perfect and in fine voice for an outstanding production of 'Slim McBride and the Lost Tribe' with Scottish Opera. The team from Scottish Opera yet again wove their magic, as only they can, with high energy, focus and lots of fun to choreograph the entire show in a single day. We are also grateful to musical director Roger who spent a day with the pupils a few weeks ago. This year's rainforest themed production was ideal for P5. The children thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience and rose to the occasion superbly, inspired by the fantastic turnout. Tip top job by Mrs McVicker, Mrs Campbell, Ms Gregson and Mrs Mackay in preparing them so well and thank you to all the families who came along to shout "Bravo!" and "Encore!" Photographs have been published the P5 Class Pages.

Thank you to the families who gave permission to publish the video below. (Apologies for loss of sound at one point and a few wobbles - half an hour proved a long time to try to hold an iPad steady!)
