Pupil Council Bake Sale £591.84!

The Sciennes Pupil Council chose three applications to run a bake sale in aid of a charity: Matthew, Evie and Stephen for Alzheimer Scotland,  Patrick for Water Aid and Shakira for Cancer Research UK. Following some brilliant presentations by the three short listed candidates the whole school voted on the charity they believed deserved the majority of the bake sale proceeds.
The Bake Sale on Friday 28th March was run in aid of Cancer Research UK who will receive 50% of all money raised. Water Aid and Alzheimer Scotland were the runners up in the whole school vote and will each receive 25% of the proceeds.
Ms Dodds and the Pupil Council did an amazing job and they managed to raise £591.84. Thanks to all the staff who helped and to all the families who baked and bought!

P4B Sumdog Challenge

Mr Kearton's and Mrs Maguire's Primary 4B class represented Sciennes in a citywide online maths challenge this week - and came a remarkable 8th place.

Competing against 33 schools from across the City, 4B took part in a wide range of mental maths games on the Sumdog website, developing their accuracy and speed as they went.

Edinburgh's Digital Learning Team organised this schools contest with Queensferry-based Sumdog. Nearly 2,000 pupils took part. The chidren answered approximately 10,000 mental maths questions, practising  number bonds, fractions and maths operations.

Finishing in 8th place when competing as a single class (and considering the age of the children) was no mean feat. An achievement to be proud of, 4B!

Clocks Forward this Weekend

Earth Hour Saturday 29th March 8.30pm- 9.30pm

Join Earth Hour Saturday 29th March by switching off your lights between 8.30pm-9.30pm.

#BeBrilliant in Scotland
Using social media to call for actions on climate change through public transport, housing & renewables. “Across Scotland, national monuments, castles, buildings and even ships are going dark – we’ve even got the royal seal of approval with the Royal Yacht Britannia and the Queen’s official residence, Holyrood House, joining in the fun”.
Millions of people around the world are expected to switch off lights in homes, offices and famous landmarks at 8.30pm local time for an hour on Saturday to mark WWF's annual Earth Hour.
Now in its eighth year, the mass participation event aims to show support for environmental issues comes

Among the world's famous landmarks that will dim their lights are the Empire State building in New York, the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Kremlin and Red Square in Moscow, the Bosphorus Bridge in Turkey and the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. In the UK, the Houses of Parliament, Buckingham palace, Tower Bridge, the London Eye, the Forth Rail Bridge, the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh, Arbroath Abbey in Angus, the War Memorial in Stornoway, the Kelvingrove and the Clyde Arc in Glasgow and the Falkirk Wheel will all dim their lights, with an estimated 10 million Britons expected to take part.
