Millions of people around the world are expected to switch off lights
in homes, offices and famous landmarks at 8.30pm local time for an hour
on Saturday to mark WWF's annual Earth Hour.Using social media to call for actions on climate change through public transport, housing & renewables. “Across Scotland, national monuments, castles, buildings and even ships are going dark – we’ve even got the royal seal of approval with the Royal Yacht Britannia and the Queen’s official residence, Holyrood House, joining in the fun”.

Among the world's famous landmarks that will dim their lights are the Empire State building in New York, the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Kremlin and Red Square in Moscow, the Bosphorus Bridge in Turkey and the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. In the UK, the Houses of Parliament, Buckingham palace, Tower Bridge, the London Eye, the Forth Rail Bridge, the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh, Arbroath Abbey in Angus, the War Memorial in Stornoway, the Kelvingrove and the Clyde Arc in Glasgow and the Falkirk Wheel will all dim their lights, with an estimated 10 million Britons expected to take part.
